Dr. John H. Jackson
President and CEO of The Schott Foundation for Public Education

On July 2, 2007, Dr. John H. Jackson became the President and CEO of The Schott Foundation for Public Education.  In this role, Dr. Jackson leads the Foundation’s efforts to ensure a high quality public education for all students regardless of race or gender. Dr. Jackson joined the Schott Foundation after seven productive years in leadership positions at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He served as the NAACP Chief Policy Officer and prior to that as the NAACP's National Director of Education.

 

Dr. Jackson also served as an Adjunct Professor of Race, Gender, and Public Policy at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute.  In 1999, President William Jefferson Clinton appointed Dr. Jackson to serve in his administration as Senior Policy Advisor in the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the U.S. Department of Education.

 

Dr. Jackson possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Xavier University of Louisiana; A Master of Education in Education Policy from the University of Illinois' College of Education; and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois' College of Law. In addition, Dr. Jackson received a Master of Education and Doctorate of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. 

 

Dr. Jackson served on the Obama-Biden transition team as a member of the President’s 13-member Education Policy Transition Work Group.

Dr. Bennie E. Lambert, VP
Student Development,
Lone Star College-North Harris, Houston, TX

Dr. Bennie Lambert serves as Vice President of Student Services for Lone Star College in Houston Texas. In addition to his commitment to Lone Star College, Dr. Lambert dedicates his time to numerous national and Houston-area community organizations, including The College Board, American College Testing, Special Olympics, and The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He has also served on the board of directors of American Red Cross, YMCA, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

 

Dr. Lambert has dedicated his life to helping people reach their potential. As a gifted communicator, Dr. Lambert combines humor and wisdom to inspire and inform audiences in a way that few motivational speakers can. He has spoken at more than 100 high schools, colleges and universities and served as a motivational consultant to several of the most respected local and national companies and organizations. He has encouraged thousands of people to seek higher education, learning and performance goals.



Mr. Gary Brackett
2009 Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl XLI Champion
Founder, IMPACT Foundation

Mr. Gary Brackett played football as a college student at Rutgers University in New Jersey and was defensive team captain winning the team’s MVP honors in his senior year. His career continued with the Indianapolis Colts and he was a part of the 2009 Super Bowl XLI championship team.

 

Having played for nine (9) seasons, Mr. Brackett has received numerous honors, including the Arthur S. Arkush Humanitarian Award in 2009, presented to an NFL player “whose contributions to the community and charitable organizations are especially outstanding.” He won the award for his work with the IMPACT Foundation, the charity he founded in 2007, that has impacted the lives of nearly 200,000 underprivileged children suffering from cancer.

 


Mr. Trabian Shorters,

and James L. Knight Foundation

Trabian Shorters joined Knight Foundation in December 2007. He is responsible for the foundation’s work in 26 communities across the United States and within the Knight Community Information Challenge (KCIC). Trabian has a long history of creating and running different types of networks for social innovation.

From 2003-2007 Trabian was a senior venture entrepreneur with Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, where he simultaneously directed Ashoka-US, served on the global executive team and was an integrator for Ashoka-US, Canada and Mexico. In these roles, he managed major donor relationships, raised the Ashoka-US budget, spoke and traveled to Europe, Africa and South America on Ashoka's behalf. He also found and vetted 17 Ashoka Fellows including Charles Best, Gerald Chertavian, Ron Chisom, Joe Marshall, John Sage, Jim McCorkell, Joe Williams, Tyrone Bledsoe, Jim Thompson, Steve Bigari, Ami Dar, and Eboo Patel.

Prior to Ashoka, Trabian was the leading social entrepreneur who launched Technology Works for Good (now NPowerDC). TechWorks was a first-of-its-kind network of technology providers, funders, nonprofits and consultants committed to helping nonprofits use technology to serve more people better and faster. By securing founding support and senior executive leadership from AOL Time Warner, Microsoft, Fannie Mae and the Meyer Foundation, TWFG became Washington D.C.’s leading nonprofit provider of technology solutions to organizations of all sizes.

In addition to his leadership in social entrepreneurship and technology, Trabian is one of the original authors and organizers of the AmeriCorps National Service proposal to the Clinton administration. AmeriCorps now has more than 500,000 alumni who have served thousands of organizations in the U.S. He was a member of the Children Defense Fund's Black Student Leadership Network and was once nominated by AOL to be a Smithsonian Institution Laureate for innovations in technology delivery.

Today Trabian is vice chair of DonorsChoose.org and is a coach for New York University’s Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Program for Social Entrepreneurship. Originally from Pontiac, Michigan, he earned a journalism degree from Michigan State University, participated in Horizons Upward Bound Program at Cranbrook, and is the proud first grandson of Kennis and Irma Lee Hutchons.
