Powerful
SAAB Member Testimony:
Dear Dr. Bledsoe,
I am a brother at the University of
Louisville SAAB chapter and have been a
member for 4 years. The reason for me
writing to you is in response to our
talk we had at the conference. We spoke
about graduate school, and you told me
that you would be willing to help me get
into graduate school no matter what, as
long as I didn't waste your time.

Black Males Hit
Extra Hard By Unemployment~The
country's
spiraling unemployment rate is taking a
particular toll on men as the recession
continues to roil male-dominated
industries, such as manufacturing and
construction. This
"he-cession," as it's sometimes called,
has hit African-American men especially
hard, increasing their unemployment rate
to more than 17 percent last month. One of
those unemployed black men searching for
work is Randolph Smith. When Smith, 53,
is working, he manages logistics,
inventory and supplies for large
companies. He's been trying to find that
type of work since he was laid off a
year ago — but so far, he's had no
success. Read

The
Completion Shortfall
- "Access
without success is an empty promise…and a missed
opportunity with economic consequences."
Americans can take pride in the great progress
made in ensuring access to college:
More than 70% of our young people start some
kind of advanced training or education within
two years of receiving their high school
diplomas. Yet for too many, the journey ends
long before graduation day. They become college
dropouts.

Mr. Mike Love, SAAB Chapter Advisory
at Mount Miguel High School shared
this photo from their 7th Annual
East County Young Men's Leadership
Conference. “We had a record number
of participants! Over 65 young men
heard wisdom from Agustin Peña, Mike
Love, Mark Jeffers, SAAB @ SDSU
[Student African American
Brotherhood], among others. El
Santos brought a group of students
down from Temecula and they have
committed to building a male support
group at their school. Jerome and
Shakira Williams sponsored a group
from the Oceanside/Carlsbad
community. Supporters such as Sylvia
Sposato, Joyce Moore and Kim Moore
handled all the 'behind the scenes'
arrangements which made for a
fantastic day. We couldn't have done
it without you! And I would be
negligent if I did not mention
Tyrone Bledsoe Phd - the founder of
SAAB whose vision and commitment
were the roots of our work!
