Realizing Dr. King's dream
through SAAB
|
 |

The
earthquake, which struck Japan March 11, claimed the
lives of over 10,000 people. Along with the ensuing
tsunami, these disasters are estimated to have caused
over $235 billion in damages. Thousands of survivors
have been left homeless, starving, and without adequate
water supply for weeks. When disaster struck, members of
the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB)
Virginia Beach Chapter responded with a sense of purpose
and a common goal in mind "commitment to service."
Teamwork does indeed allow
common people to attain uncommon results. Led by
Tidewater Community College student Herbert Davis,
SAAB Service Learning committee chair, and other
SAAB members realized the importance of community
service and through a collective effort and vision to
raise $600.00 in support of “Disaster Relief.” Virginia
Beach Campus Provost Mike Summers, SAAB members
and Theresa Soska, Major Gifts Officer with the American
Red Cross, gathered July 5, 2011 to present the $600.00
check to the American Red Cross in a ceremony to
recognize the SAAB chapter’s efforts.
Launched
this year, the SAAB Virginia Beach Chapter encourages
participants to excel in all areas of life including
academics, social, cultural, professional and in the
community. From left to right, Brian Rose, SAAB
